How To Find Us
By Car
While it is ideally situated for a get-away-from-it-all break, Smugglers Cottage, Talland Bay is easily accessible by road. Be aware, however, that if you’re using a SatNav or mobile phone to find us, our postcode (PL13 2JA) covers a wide area and you will need to follow these directions to get all the way to Smugglers Cottage:
- Follow the Satnav’s directions to the A387 Looe-to-Polperro and take the left turn signposted Talland and Sclerder Abbey, which is just past the B3359 turning on the right signposted for Lostwithiel, Liskeard, Polruan, etc. Continue straight along the winding, single-track road for a mile or so until you come to the Talland Bay Hotel on your left, when you will start the steep, downhill stretch to the sea.
- When the sea comes into view, you will pass a sign on your right that tells you you’re at Talland. Continue along the road as it bends round to the left (just past the red telephone box) and drive for roughly a quarter of a mile further until you reach Smugglers Cottage (on your left). There is space to park next to the cottage’s garden.
If you are not using a SatNav or your mobile phone, the easiest way to reach us is to:
- Find your way to Exeter, then follow the A38 Devon Expressway to Plymouth (which is around 45 minutes’ drive from us) and then cross the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall.
- Continue along the A38 through the villages of Landrake and Tideford, after which you come to a roundabout at Trerulefoot where you turn left on to the A374, signposted Looe (A387) and Torpoint.
- A mile or so down the A374, you will see a turning to the right, signposted Looe (A387). Take this turning and continue to Looe.
- At Looe, stay on the A387 across the bridge and continue up the hill towards Polperro.
- After a couple of miles (which take you past turnings to the left signposted for Talland that you should ignore) you will come to a turning on the right for the B3359 signposted for Lostwithiel, Liskeard, Polruan, etc. Continue along the A387 for another 100 metres, then take the turning to the left signposted Talland and Sclerder Abbey.
- Follow this winding, single-track road for a mile or so until you come to the Talland Bay Hotel on your left, when you will start the steep, downhill stretch to the sea.
- When the sea comes into view, you will pass a sign on your right that tells you you’re at Talland. Continue along the road as it bends round to the left (just past the red telephone box) and drive for roughly a quarter of a mile further until you reach Smugglers Cottage (on your left).
